YOUTH
Youth Year 2011 At this year’s youth meeting, we vowed to be more
active. At the meeting, we decided to plan a fun day, and host a youth
horse show. Come early spring, we began to plan and organize the fun
day, which we held at the Pack’s house. Many youth members attended,
and even a few non-members too, which was an awesome surprise! We
played various games, both horse and non-horse related. Everyone was
divided into teams, and that gave everyone a chance to meet and
mingle. After the games were completed, everyone had some after game
snacks. Hopefully everyone had as much fun at the fun day, as the
youth committee had planning it!
A few months after the fun day, it was time to begin planning another important youth event, the Alberta Morgan Horse Youth Club Fun Show. Everyone on the youth committee hoped that this show would be a success, and it was! Everyone on the committee is under the age of 21, and it shows everybody how time-consuming it is to plan a show. It sure gives us a real appreciation for the show committees that plan the various shows that we attend each year.
The AMHCY Fun Show gives anyone under the age of
21 the chance to show in at a really fun and inexpensive show. It
offers classes in many divisions, including hunt, saddle seat, and
western. There are also many “just for fun” classes, such as ride a
fiver, the costume class, opposite pairs, and everyone’s personal
favourite, tandem bareback.
We decided to hold the Youth Show at Lakedell
Agricultural Society, where the show has been held for the past few
years. After we had the location decided on, we needed to decide on
show officials. Our judge
this year was the wonderful Jessie St.John. Her ringmaster and
announcer was the AMHCY vice-president, Liselle Oliveira. In the show
office, we had the awesome Tracey family, organizing all the
competitors. Out in the jumping ring, we had the great Barb Tracey
judging. Last but not least, we had many young youth members helping
hand out ribbons. A few nights before the show, the Youth Show
committee met up, and got everything organized.
They spent many hours preparing the cookie ribbons, organizing
the cash prizes, and getting all the other prizes ready.
The day of the show arrived, and it was a
success! Everyone had a ton of fun, and there were many exhibitors and
many spectators to cheer them on. At the end of the show was a beef on
a bun dinner, and then the announcement of the high point champions.
After that was time for the pick a prize. Every exhibitor got to
choose from an array of prizes. In a way, everyone was a winner. Soon
after, it was time to pack up and head home. We hope to see everyone
again next year.
As 2011 comes to an end, another youth year is
about to start. We hope to host many more activities this coming year,
including another fun day, and another youth show. We also hope to see
many youth members attending these events, and many non-members too!
